MESA & TRiO-STEM at Chabot College

RAGE Chabot, the campus environmental club Revolutionaries Advocating for Greener Ecosystems, provided environmental consulting services to the MESA Center and assessed areas of high consumption and excess waste for more sustainable solutions. Recommendations included increasing natural lighting, reducing packaging waste from snacks, recycling whiteboard markers, and this change in utensils. Did you know that "compostable" plastic utensils are actually not as compostable as ...we think? The composting has to be done at an industrial facility, and even then the compost quality isn't great. It creates a debris that's not as nutritious for plants. Organic materials like bamboo, however, are great alternatives and are actually bio-degradable! Earlier this week the Chabot Robotics Collective (a club made up of a lot of MESA/TRiO-STEM members) held a pie fundraiser to raise additional money for their upcoming trip to the ASME Engineering Festival! They'll be attending the E-Fest next week in Pomona, CA where they'll also be participating in the Robotics Design Competition. Thank you to everyone who came out to pie a professor (and each other)!

Make sure to stop by the center (Room 2005) to work on scholarship applications while enjoying some soda! You'll get the opportunity to have your scholarship questions answered and receive some tips from your peers and counselors. We'll have scholarships & soda hours EVERY DAY until March 11th, when the Chabot scholarships application (https://chabotcollege.awardspring.com/) closes. If you're not a member of MESA/TRiO-STEM but want to join us, stop by to chat and pick up an application!

If you haven't already, don't forget to stop by the center to pick up your finals packet! We have all the essentials you need to study and to get through the winter weather. Good luck on finals!

Our center in room 2005 is now open until 9 pm Mondays - Thursdays! Join us in the evening throughout this week for our late night grand opening!

The MESA/TRiO-STEM Center now has a food pantry open to all during center hours! Stop by to grab some dry or canned foods to take home, such as pasta, beans, rice, fruits, veggies, tuna, chicken, peanut butter, and more!

All MESA students now have the opportunity to submit their resume to MESA's resume collection/database! This is an opportunity for students to get noticed by MESA industry partners across the state in many STEM sectors. Submitted MESA student resumes will be included in a searchable database that will allow companies to sort resumes by major, GPA or other criteria and to connect directly with MESA students for internships, research or permanent employment. When submitting you...r resumes, please make sure they are Word (.doc/.docx) or .pdf formats, and name them as follows: campusname_lastname_firstname (e.g., ChabotCollege_Smith_Lisa).
