So sad to share the news that Ziggy Douglas, E.D. of the Hawaii Chapter, passed away suddenly last night. He was a tremendous leader and great person. We will all miss him.

We wanted to make you aware that WellSpace Health is partnering with Anthem Blue Cross to offer free flu shots starting November 16 and continuing through December 23rd at two WellSpace locations: 2425 Alhambra Blvd in Sacramento and 5959 Greenback Lane in Citrus Heights. The program is available from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and you need not be a WellSpace patient or have Anthem coverage. You are, however, required to register in advance at: anthem.ly/CAFluClinic. The free shots are available to anyone in the community, age 3 or older--and if you click on the link, you will see Anthem is sponsoring similar clinics all over the state.

Announcing CCHF’s Annual Holiday Event We’re not going to let COVID-19 become the Grinch that stole Christmas from the kids in our service area! Central California Hemophilia Foundation has reimagined its annual holiday event. It will be Saturday, December 5th, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., at Sutter Health Park in West Sacramento. Families must register in advance. On the 5th, you will drive to the ballpark, where Santa and/or River Cats mascot Dinger will be waiting in the main... parking lot to deliver wrapped gifts for the kids (and bags of groceries) to your car. You will be required to remain in your car and, after receiving the goodies and posing for a photo with Santa, exit the parking lot and be on your way. Unfortunately, we cannot allow people to stay and visit. All public health guidelines must be observed during the event. After you register, we will send you information about how to get there and when to come for your visit with Santa. This event is open only to affected kids and siblings of families who reside in CCHF’s service area. To sign up, please go to CCHF’s website (https://www.cchfsac.org/holiday-event) for further details and registration information. See more

Volunteers Needed CCHF has two storage units full of equipment and supplies that need to be moved to new space in Sacramento’s north area. We are going to do that on Saturday, October 24th, and can use up to 20 volunteers to help. And if you happen to have a pickup truck and enclosed cargo trailer, we can really use you! If you’re willing to help, please email Steve Heath ([email protected]) ASAP. Thanks!

YOU COULD WIN THIS THING! You could win a free Thanksgiving Zoom session by participating in this year’s CCHF Unite Walk! OK, that doesn’t exactly sound thrilling, but wait! Whether we like it or not, virtual is going to be part of our lives for months to come. In fact, the Centers for Disease Control just recommended that Thanksgiving celebrations be virtual, to avoid spreading COVID-19 or the flu; no big, in-person gatherings. What does that have to do with this year’s U...nite Walk? To help make Thanksgiving more fun, CCHF is offering Walk participants the opportunity to win a free, two-hour, co-hosted Thanksgiving gathering for up to 300 people using CCHF’s upgraded Zoom platform. That’s three times as many people and three times as many minutes as a regular Zoom session allows. Also, guests can participate by phone as well as by computer. Better yet, you can record the event and store it in the cloud for up to a month, so that family and friends who couldn’t participate that day can log in and enjoy watching it from anywhere. Basic Zoom doesn’t allow those things, either. So, since Thanksgiving is going to be virtually virtual anyway, what better way to do it? CCHF will help you set up the session and help you if needed for a two-hours at a mutually agreed upon time on November 26th, 27th, 28th or 29th. We'll even set up a practice session with you ahead of time. How do you win? The top five Walk teams in terms of dollars raised (minimum of $1,000 raised) and the top five individual donors (at least $750 donated) will be offered sessions, as will two other donors who will be chosen at random. Think of the possibilities! You could get everyone togetherfriends and familywithout having to buy a plane ticket, rent a hall, hire a caterer or book a band. Well, you might want to book a band. But the point is, everyone can visit and have fun, even if they are thousands of miles aparteven people who are quarantined can log in! You can create a breakout room where the kids can do fun activities, or a room where cooks can swap recipes, or a room where the political experts can debate without spoiling things for everyone else. And, after two hours, everyone leaves; automatically. Peace and quiet. No dishes to wash, no chairs to fold and stack, no bags of trash to haul away. It doesn’t sound so bad, after all, does it? So, what are you waiting for? Get out there and get eligible! And if you’re not already registered for the Walk (which on October 10th), click on the link below and get signed up now. Thanks! https://www.uniteforbleedingdisorders.org/index.cfm
