Back in 2019, the California State Legislature passed the California Cradle-to-Career Data System Act, which sets out requirements for the development of a statewide data infrastructure. This data system was designed to ensure that educational, workforce, financial aid, and social service information can be fully leveraged to address disparities in opportunities and improve outcomes for all studentsfrom cradle to career.

The skyrocketing infection rates of the past few weeks make it clear the pandemic is not under control. Two of the state’s largest school districts, Los Angeles Unified School District and San Diego Unified School District, announce distance learning-only classes in August while continuing to plan for a return to in-person during the 2021 academic year, public health conditions permitting. Children cannot be taught in isolation. The K-12 school district needs to serve the whole community. We need to ensure success of the entire family. If we don’t deal with financial issues of adults in the house, we are handicapping the child. Cyndi Parulen-Colfer, 2020 #CCAEStateAwardee, Lifetime Membership Awardee Attending Adult Education #ESL classes after school that her mother taught at Baldwin Park Adult and Community Education, Cyndi saw at an early age the impact ...of K-12 Adult Education on her community. Cyndi recently retired after serving 6 years as Superintendent, Hacienda La Puente Unified School District. Cyndi has made it her life’s work to advocate for #K12AdultEd at the highest levels. She has been the CCAE South Coast President, CCAE State Legislative Chair, CAEAA President, ACSA Region 15 Chair for Adult Education, and Los Angeles County Workforce Development, Aging & Community Services Board Member. Thank you, Cyndi, for your exemplary leadership and dedication to advancing #AdultEducation and wholistic community progresslocally and statewide. California is fortunate to have such strong leaders and mentors like you as part of our community. It is our honor to recognize you with CCAE’s Lifetime Membership State Award.
