Crazy sunset last night on the strand. I captured some big splashes and a fin far off while shooting, thought it might be a shark feeding, but when I enlarged it on my laptop screen it appears it was a dolphin. Good times.

The beauty of Cayucos goes beyond our ocean and rolling green hills - you find it in the spirit of the people. While our busineses are closed and restaurants a...re struggling under state-imposed restrictions since the start of the gobal pandemic, some of our most vulnerable neighbors also need support. Sea Shanty owner Carol Kramer said an anonymous donor offered to pay for meals of some seniors if the restaurant would cook and deliver. Together they picked up where the Cayucos Senior Center left off, which had provided services but closed with the onset of the coronavirus spread in March. Since then, the Cayucos Chamber of Commerce has also contributed for meal costs as the list of needs grows, now up to 70 meals a day, including live-in caretakers. "Some tell us we are their only contact of the day," Carol said. Some of her children and grandchildren are involved in the deliveries and staff does the cooking, in addiiton to the take-out and delivery restaurant orders the Sea Shanty continues to do 7 days a week. Indoor dining remains closed under the state's shelter at home orders. "It's just what we do in Cayucos," says Carol. "We help out when we can."

Kelly Borchard, Cayucos Downtown Grateful Long after c virus has become a history lesson,the Sea Shanty's owners and staff will be remembered for their generous community spirit. 10 years down the pike,around Easter,someone will remind somebody,about the year,Carole and Bill hosted a drive by b-b- que for us Pandemic weary souls.Was evidently the last customer,in a long line of cars,stretching down Ocean Ave.And their timing was impeccable,as I had just finished a boogie wate...r church session with my gal friends.Having lost my mom recently,and thus the engine that drove the Easter spirit,I was resigned to just mellow the rest of the day. But low and behold,a friend called me to action. Easter dinner never tasted so good,under the guise of Styrofoam and plastic utensils. The image of Carol smiling,in her grammie apron,after a long day of selfless service,endeared her to me.Very cool,SS. May we return the favor by patronizing the summer music series you host on alternating sundays,after the dust settles.True community spirit through tough times. See more

Life has been so good to us in Cayucos we, Bill & Carol, would like to pass on those blessings to our sweet town. Easter Sunday at 2:00 pm, drive by the Shanty to pick up a plate of Billy’s BBQ. Compliments of the Sea Shanty!

The reports are that the truckers are getting supplies to the stores. People are stocking the shelves all night and letting old people shop first. Carnival Crui...se line told Trump We can match those big Navy Hospital ships with some fully staffed cruise ships GM said hold our cars and watch this; we can make those ventilators where we were making cars starting next week. Women and children are making homemade masks and handing out snacks to truckers. Restaurants and schools said, We’ve got kitchens and staff; we can feed kids. Churches are holding on-line services and taking care of their members and community. NBA basketball players said, Hold our basketballs while we write checks to pay the arena staff. Construction companies said, Here are some masks for the medical staff and doctors. Breweries are making sanitizer out of the left-over ingredients. We thought we couldn’t live without Baseball, NASCAR, NBA or going to the beach, restaurants or a bar. Instead, we’re trying to keep those businesses open by ordering take-out. America is saying "Hey, hold my beer and watch this." I think a Japanese Admiral in the middle of the Pacific said it best in 1941, "I think we have awakened a sleeping giant." Give us a few more weeks (maybe months) and we will be doing much better! And stop listening to the hysterical media!! Sharing this from another FB friend.
