A school district in California is using the Next-Generation Mobility Firewall from Aruba Networks -- free on Aruba OS 6.4 -- to help prepare for online testing under the Common Core State Standards. Among other things, the firewall allows network managers to set usage for applications on a granular level, such as restricting YouTube and Facebook for educational purposes.

Cisco is readying a suite of new and enhanced videoconferencing solutions designed to offer companies a number of high-performance but cost-effective avenues to increase enterprise communication. The new offerings, which will include a price cut of up to 45% on some products, will leverage the popularity of bring-your-own-device by adding employee smartphones and tablets to the videoconferencing mix.
Increasing demand for IT talent is driving computer science enrollments, the Computing Research Association's 2013 Taulbee Report says, and reveals a 22% boost in enrollment in bachelor programs between 2012 and 2013. Ph.D. degree enrollments rose 6.8% over the past two years.

Intel's "Ivytown" 15-core Xeon chip, with 4.31 billion transistors and targeted for high-end servers, could be the company's fastest in the lineup, Agam Shah writes. The chip is based on the "Ivy Bridge" microarchitecture and will succeed the Xeon E7 chips.
