Lifeguarding is not for everybody; its a calling, not just a job. Working the shoreline of a valley reservoir presents its unique challenges as well. It's not the beach, afterall. Lifeguards contend with valley heat and the dust, providing excellent, attentive and public first aid services for the visitors of #MillertonLake. If you think you have what it takes to be a Millerton Lifeguard, join us on Sunday, March 14, at 10AM. Any collegiate swimmer can hop off the couch and b...ag 1000 yards, no sweat. The water temp is about 58 degrees ;) Tryouts will consist of the following: -1000 yard open-water swim in 20 minutes -800 yard run-swim-run in 10 minutes -Qualification Appraisal Interview Successful candidates will be granted a conditional job offer. If hired, new Lifeguards must attend an 80-hour Basic Training at Lake Perris in mid-June. Work on the lake this summer... California State Lifeguards https://www.parks.ca.gov/?page_id=30307

#MillertonLake Fishing Report: October 21-27 - The Fresno Bee There is a solid topwater bite after dusk with largemouth bass to 5 lbs. reported on a Whopper-Plopper 130 in Black-Loon. The River-2-Sea Rover-n-Okie Shad or Powder White is another topwater option, but cooler temperatures are necessary for more consistent action.... During the day, 6 Fat Roboworm’s, Aaron’s Pro Shad, or Neon Greenpumpkin are working along with Brush-Hogs on a Texas-rig in the main lake. Finegold Bay and Sky Harbor have been two productive locations for drop-shotting in shallow water. Jake Figgs Valley Rod & Gun (559) 292-3474 The lake rose from 30 to 32%. https://www.fresnobee.com//hunting-f/article246544928.html

#MillertonLake Fishing Report - October 8-20 The Fresno Bee Still the top bass option in the Fresno-area as there is an early morning topwater bite with Ricos, Whopper-Ploppers or Spooks before dropping to the bottom after 9AM with plastics on the drop-shot or dart head in the 15’ range.... The main lake points in East Bay or in Finegold Bay or Finegold Creek are the most productive areas. A few largemouth bass in the 3-pound range were reported this week. Jake Figgs Valley Rod & Gun (559) 292-3474 The lake held at 30%. https://www.fresnobee.com/article246309540.html

#MillertonLake Fishing Report - October 7-13 The Fresno Bee We caught and released numerous spotted bass to 2.5 lbs. working main lake points with the bass found both on the surface or on the bottom.... We found a topwater bite with the River2Sea Rover 128 in Powder White, but the best action was on the bottom with either a 6 Roboworm Aaron’s Pro Shad Fat or a 5 cinnamon red/blue flake Senko on a Texas rig with a light bullet weight at 1/32 oz. Sometimes the plastic would hit the bottom, but the majority of the time, the bass were picking it up and running off with it before it made it to the bottom. We were working steep bluff walls or rocky points from East Bay up the lake to Finegold, and we found our best action in Finegold. Jake Figgs Valley Rod & Gun (559) 292-3474 Millerton dropped slightly to 30%. https://www.fresnobee.com//hunting-f/article246183305.html

#MillertonLake Fishing Report: September 30-October 6 - The Fresno Bee There is an excellent bite for small spotted bass as the fish are offshore chasing schools of bait out into open water. Jerkbaits or hard-walking topwater baits such as Super-Spooks in Okie-Shad are working in the open water. ... This lure has a translucent pink line the mimics the shad. Jake Figgs Valley Rod & Gun (559) 292-3474 The lake drop from 34% to 31%. https://www.fresnobee.com//hunting-f/article246049935.html

#MillertonLake Fishing Report: September 23-29 - The Fresno Bee The lake remains the top bass fishery in the area with numerous spotted bass in the 12 range possible as 40-fish days are possible. Larger fish are hard to locate, but there have been some spotted bass in the 2.5-4 lb. range taken on occasion.... The best action is in the river arm as far as possible in the receding lake, and plastics on the drop-shot, Ned-Rig, or wacky-rig. The 6 Hologram-Shad on a light Neko-Rig along with spy baits in natural shad patterns has also been effective. The bass are suspending around 15-20’ in 40’ of water.
