The staff of the California State Library was saddened to hear about the passing of Sacramento painter Greg Kondos, who brought so much color to our offices.

Mary McIntire Pacheco, who was First Lady of California in 1875, died on this day in 1915. She was a playwright, novelist and celebrated host of literary salons in San Francisco and Sacramento. Her husband, Romualdo Pacheco, was the first governor born in California. He briefly served as governor in 1875.
