The distillery is now in the hands of current Chairman, Hedley G. Wright, Mitchell’s great, great grandson the fifth generation of the Mitchell family to own and manage Springbank. The Springbank team use traditional production methods and are involved in every step of the whisky making process. I was able to visit Campbeltown... and tour the Springbank distillery a few years ago and it really was a truly amazing experience. They still do a lot of production the old fashioned way, including malting their own barley using the traditional and laborious malting floor method. I was also able to tour a dunnage warehouse, an earthen floored, stone-walled building for aging barrels in. Tasted some great things in there right from the barrels with the help of a whisky thief.
