CARS Pick: 10/10/10 was a thrilling day for Los Angeles! The first CicLAvia created a new public space for Angelenos who lovingly embraced this radical idea from Bogotá, Colombia. In ten years the non-profit organization has created 226 miles of car-free streets with 35 CicLAvias throughout Los Angeles County involving 1.8 million people that’s an incalculable amount of random human contact, children navigating their own city on their terms, and acres of temporary public sp...ace. Community Arts Resources (CARS) played a pivotal role in the development, realization, and flowering of this new civic institution from 2009 through 2016. We salute CicLAvia and its spirit and we look forward to the next decade of its evolution! CARS President Aaron Paley reflects on how far we have yet to go in order to achieve safe and equitable streets for Angelenos all year long. CARS Pick: This week we are looking back on "Celebrate LA" an event produced by CARS celebrating the Los Angeles Philharmonic's centennial year on September 30, 2018! This free, eight-mile, day-long celebration stretched from Downtown Los Angeles to the Hollywood Hills. In the era of social distancing, we are now more than ever in awe of this massive extravaganza of music and performance that featured 1,800 artists performing at six community music festivals. While we know it may be some time before this kind of gathering is possible, the music of the LA Phil continues with SOUND/STAGE- a new online collection of concert films, interviews, essays, and artwork that offer deeper insights into the music and connect us to each others creativity. https://www.soundstage.laphil.com/love-in-the-time-of-covid
