Today’s Morning Announcements... https://www.schooltube.com//170133912/0_9soimyfg/1_2dollj9v Mental Health Consultants Yesterday was one of the most challenging days Carpenter's staff has ever had. Sensitive conversations were held to some degree in all of our classrooms. With the exception of our School Psychologist, Jenny Davidson, none of us (I put myself at the top of the list) are experts in grief counseling. I am extremely grateful that we were not alone in this process. LAUSD provided a team of mental health consultants to us ever since we learned of Mr. Glover’s passing. They prepared us for yesterday’s conversations and were present in our classes to support our teachers. They will also continue to be available to us for as long as needed. Their assistance has helped us begin the process of grieving as a community. During our debrief session yesterday, I was able to take a photo of the mental health team supporting our school. Names are in alphabetical order: Fabiola Bermudez (SSS), Valerie Blandino (SMH), Samantha Camareno (SMH), Jenny Davidson (CCC PSY), Lori Dudler (SMH), Megan George (PSA), Melodie Hong (CCC AP), Eileen Lemus (SMH), Tiffany Mack (LRE), Joseph Martinez (CCC P), Tatiana Montes (SMH), David Newhall (SMH), Leticia Panduro (SSS), Felicita Peña (SMH), Rosalie Perez (PSA), Kelly Ramirez (SMH), Shira Scherb (SMH), Jesus Solis (SMH), & Griselda Vargas (SMH). Condolence Letters/Artwork We are inviting students to either write a letter to Mr. Glover's family or submit artwork that reflects how they feel about him. Dear Parents, This is a friendly reminder that school resumes tomorrow, January 12, at 9:00 a.m. I want to make you all aware that tomorrow morning during the Morning Announcements, we will be discussing the passing of Mr. Glover. The discussion will be done in very general terms to acknowledge our loss and share some personal memories of him. Students will be invited to write a letter or create some artwork that represents their feelings for Mr. Glover. I will explain all... the details for anyone who wants to participate. If you would prefer that your child not be present for that discussion, you may have your child log into their class after 9:15 a.m. without penalty. Afterwards, each of our classes in grades 3-5 will hold a class discussion about Mr. Glover's passing. Our teachers will be assisted in that discussion by a mental health consultant. Students will be given an opportunity to share their feelings if they are comfortable doing so. They will also be encouraged to speak with any of our staff members if they need support as we move forward in the coming days, weeks, and months. Again, if you would prefer that your child not participate in the class discussion, you can have them long into the class later in the day without penalty. Our classes in grades TK-2 will not be holding discussions about Mr. Glover unless it is initiated by students. Thank you for your understanding, Joseph P. Martinez Principal
