2020 has been a doozy! Am I right?!? Yes, it has. We launched into 2020 with many sold-out workshopsonly to be stunned with the quickly changing developments amid the coronavirus pandemic. As we have moved, changed, canceled, and postponed workshops all year, we have received much goodwill and sentiment from the art community and we appreciate that. Now, with the global pandemic in place, we all face difficult shared struggles that although is individual in nature, we identi...fy together as having this common experience. Our 2020 workshop schedule has been a moving target so we have decided to postpone the rest of our scheduled workshops to 2021. Please view our updated workshop list here. We were only able to host 4 out of the scheduled 18 workshops for 2020. I never imagined that we would have to cancel or postpone any workshops, let alone 14 of them, but this is what we had to do. I am really heartbroken about this. If you were registered in a workshop that was canceled or postponed, and have asked for a refund, please be patient as we rebuild our business. We will honor your requests as we are able. Since opening Carmel Visual Arts seven years ago this month Carol Henry and I have been building community through our studio and gallery. Since then we have hosted over art 30 exhibitions in Carmel, with well-over 100 workshops and dozens of public art demonstrations. We are extremely happy to share that more than one thousand artists have taken these workshops with top professional instructors in both painting and photography. The Barnyard Shopping Village has been a perfect location for us during our first seven years. As we approached our eighth year in Carmel, it became obvious that because of the deep shift that has occurred in our business model, due to the COVID-19 economic disaster, we would soon be closing the studio space. With no fanfare or a locals-only closing party, we finally shut-down the studio at the end of July 2020. The COVID-19 pandemic has been a very real economic disaster for Carmel Visual Arts. Yes, we will rebuild our business but it will look different. (More on that another in another post) However, with the continued support of the community and students, we will do this together and go forward. Peace, Rich Brimer, Director Carmel Visual Arts 831.620.2955 cell [email protected] P.S. Feel free to give me a call anytime. If I am busy, please leave a message and I will call you back as soon as I can. https://www.carmelvisualarts.com/bring-on-2021-workshop-sc/

@derekpenix Derek Penix Workshop! Dates: July 2022, 2020 To accommodate the new requirements, that include no indoor activities starting this week, we will be moving the workshop outdoors, to the courtyard around the Barnyard Shopping Village. Derek will be supplying the photos that you will be working from, so you will not be needing your computers or iPads. If you have photos that you want to work from your own collection, it would be best to get them printed out beforeha...nd. Derek will still be doing morning demos and you will be able to set up your easels in one of the many shady spots located around the Barnyard courtyard. We will also have a few pop-up canopies available for the sunnier spots as well. It is looking like it will be another great weather week in Carmel. This workshop is for all skill levels from beginner to advanced. Penix will cover topics such as the power of warms and cools, complementaries, harmony, edges, shape-quality, variety, simplifying, loosening brushwork, elements of design, elements of light and shadow, the power of suggestion and seeing in terms of mass and shape relationships. There will be a strong emphasis on making your paintings more three-dimensional. #OilPainting #Artist #ArtWorkshop #CarmelCalifornia

UPDATE: Carmel Visual Arts Director, Rich Brimer talks about April workshops postponed due to COVID-19 pandemic. Huihan Liu workshop: New Date July 2325, 2020 ...Angus Wilson workshop: New Date July 2729, 2020 Kathleen Hudson workshop: Postponed TBD Sean Cheetham workshop: Postponed TBD Hello everyone my name is Rich Brimer. I am the director and owner of Carmel Visual Arts in Carmel, California and The Art Distillery in Springfield, Kentucky. It was seven years ago when Carol Henry and I moved to Carmel with the intention of providing an artistic space for inspiration on California’s Central coast. Since then we have hosted over 30 exhibitions in Carmel, with well-over 100 workshops. We are extremely happy to share that more than a thousand artists have taken these workshops with top professional instructors in both painting and photography. In late 2019 we expanded to include a bed & breakfast as an art destination in Kentuckyon the property of an historic farmhouse we call Wildflower Ranch Inn. Since this is Bourbon Country, the art studio was named The Art Distillery. This location is surrounded by beautiful nature, history and plenty of space to create. In Carmel, we also added a Studio Manager my Daughter, Hannah Brimer who has been doing a fantastic job facilitating classes and workshops. We launched the new 2020 season at both locationswith many sold-out workshopsonly to be stunned with the quickly changing developments amid the corona virus pandemic. Due to the speed this has occurred, we are not only taking the current situation seriously by postponing workshops through April, but we are also developing new online art education platforms for you. We will share more on that in weeks to come As a small business with a big heart, we’ve built this creative collaboration with your ongoing support. We want to thank you for that. I also want to recognize our outstanding instructors and the impact this situation has placed on all art professionals. Believing that art provides inspiration for our societywe plan to rally-on in the face of this crisis, by looking for new ways to create together, until we can be together once again.
