It’s been a quiet few months over here on Instagram, but life has never been more exciting. I’m 22 weeks pregnant. Our little family is growing, with a baby girl expected in November. Pregnancy has felt like a full on free fall. So much newness, so much unknown, so much excitement/fear/discomfort/euphoria/joy/self discovery. My body changes weekly, sometimes daily. My mood and emotions exist in such intensity. My love for this little human growing inside me is stronger than I could have ever imagined possible. Excited to share more as the journey continues to unfold.

IMPROVE YOUR DIGESTION: I'm a huge proponent of BELLY BREATHING when it's time to eat. This practice activates the vagus nerve, which runs from your belly to your brain. Stimulating the vagus nerve through this deep belly breathing sends signals through the whole body that it's safe to relax and calm down. It tells the body that it is time for rest and digest mode (as opposed to fight or flight mode - our stress response). WHY IT'S IMPORTANT:... When we eat when we're stressed, digestion and absorption are down-regulated. When our body thinks it's struggling for survival, blood is shunted away from the digestive organs and out towards the major muscle groups. We've got to be able to run away from that lion after all! HERE's HOW: Belly breathing is a practice in which you breathe deeply into the abdomen, expanding the abdominal wall and sending space throughout the mid region. Imagine that a straw runs from your nose to a balloon inside your belly. As you breathe in, that balloon fills up. As you breath out, the balloon deflates.
