Did you scope my 2018 gift guide yet!? It's written from my perspective as an integrative nutritionist, herbalist and all around food obsessed millennial...
It's that time of year... I have a handful of bottles of my small batch Fire Tonic available on my site! Fire Tonic is a traditional folk tonic created to support us during the fall and winter months. It promotes circulation and generates a deep, sustaining heat in the body. Fire Tonic acts as a powerful antibacterial and antiviral agent, boosting the immune system and helping to ward off seasonal illness. Traditionally 1-2 tablespoons is taken daily for winter health. You ca...n mix Fire Tonic with hot water and honey to make a tea, put a little on a salad or drizzle over veggies. You can use it in marinades, in soups and chilies, or in cocktails (it's particularly tasty in a Bloody Mary)! The 2018 version is formulated with juniper berries, which lend to a light, crisp flavor, and provide an impressive antioxidant boost.
Talking seasonal defense! Did you know that (generally speaking) the herbs you use to build and fortify the immune system are different than those you use to treat active infection?
My amazing friend and mentor Diane Sanfilippo is writing a Keto guide! If you’ve been curious about Keto, this is going to be a thorough yet approachable road map. And, if you’re already into Keto, it will be a must-have reference. Get on that preorder! (Preordering is really helpful to authors navigating the publishing process. )

Hi, I’m Carly. I’m a board certified Integrative Nutritionist and folk herbalist. My mission is to empower women in radical health! I facilitate the education, resources, and strategic coaching women need to become sovereign rulers over their bodies and minds. Some facts about me: 1. I got sick following the birth of my first child. Very sick. In my quest for healing I became clear that if I survived, I would dedicate myself to contributing to the creation of BETTER healthca...re options for women. Options that acknowledge the experiences of women in a deep and compassionate way, and that create protocols to address the body, mind, and spirit as the inseparable unit they are. 2. My daughter was born in a hospital after 36 hours of labor. Every second was a struggle of Herculean proportions, and when labor stalled at the 30 hour mark, I gave in to Pitocin and an epidural. My son was born at home in 6 hours; the gift of having walked through the shadow with my illness. I feared nothing. 3. I’m a native Chicagoan and lived in the city for years before moving to San Diego. I love Southern California in ways my urban self could not have imagined, but Chicago remains the city that shaped me 4. I’m a media junkie. I lost the ability to read books when I got sick because my visual convergence was affected. That has gotten significantly better, but I still struggle with long text and rely on audio books, podcasts, and XM radio for much of my media consumption. I LOVE info and genuinely want to know ALL OF THE THINGS. 5. I’m a food lover first and a nutritionist second. I grew up in a family that discussed what they were going to have for lunch over breakfast, and I have carried on the time-honored tradition of obsessing over my next meal ever since. *I’m a Pisces, Sagittarius rising, enneagram 8, ENFP, and @gretchenrubin questioner. .
Peaches are here so it’s officially summer. Making gluten-free, dairy-free cobbler on this fine Sunday and counting my blessings.
Taking a moment to address a couple of questions about my practice.
I've had my fair share of affirmation decks over the years, but none as hard hitting and grounded as the @iamerinbrown deck. Erin's cards are so obviously the product of a deep dedication to self work, and of having traversed and emerged from a dark night of the soul. Sitting down with the deck and a journal in the evenings has been a major enhancement to my own (continual) practice of self examination and growth. She's currently sold out but accepting preorders for the next batch arriving soon!
I'm taking over the @21daysugardetox Instagram account today through Sunday. Follow along for clean eating tips, and to see what I'm cooking!
It’s officially BAS Season... BIG. ASS. SALAD. This one is made with locally grown romain, sunflower greens, broccoli sprouts, red and orange pepper, roasted tomatoes and asparagus with @balancedbites Mega Med (now retired), Wild Planet Foods canned chicken with lemon, salt and bacon grease, organic uncured bacon, blood orange (omit if you’re on the 21DSD), Primal Kitchen ranch, and a generous sprinkle of @balancedbites Bagel Seasoning.
ONE spot remains in my women’s 21 Day Sugar Detox for hormone balance starting May 7th!
