Merry Christmas Rotarians!
Even in lockdown, CHNR is busy . . . shoppers taking care of 15 adopted families (including bikes), and then RUMBLE #22 at Al's Cafe in the Village for take-out . . . trying to help where we can. PLEASE SHOP LOCAL . . .our businesses and restaurants need you. Share your own Service Above Self.
Want to kick up your heels on Saturday? Carlsbad Hi-Noon Rotary invites you to join a 5K walk as part of World Polio Day on October 24. Wear your mask and meet at Magee Park (Carlsbad Blvd) at 9:45am to walk from the park to Tamarack Avenue and back. Rotary International focused on eradicating polio in 1985 . . . since then billions of children have been vaccinated. There are only two countries in the world with polio cases: Afghanistan and Pakistan. Africa was declared polio-free in August 2020. The walk is FREE; join us as we continue to work to eradicate polio.
Rotary-CaboSmiles International Foundation Mission This week in Cabo San Lucas Rotary District 4100, Past President and Rotarian Dr. Jeffrey Moses from Rotary ...Club of Carlsbad, California, presented a $22,000.00 USD Rotary District 5340 Matching Grant check...thereby funding a Hospital Backup Generator ( Power-for-Smiles grant P-3165 ) to the representatives of the Hospital Especialidades with official assistance from their District 4100 Governor Oscar Guillermo Nava A. and Rotary President Olga Lucero of the Club Rotario Los Cabos. (See Photo) This generator will provide secure operating room power backup safety for the operations of the residents of Cabo San Lucas as well as those charitable surgeries which are provided several weeks per year for the underserved children of the region afflicted with facial-cleft deformities by the medical-partnership of Rotary with the Smiles International Foundation. The Rotary-Smiles projects have operated many hundreds of children in the Baja Mexico regions for decades and currently have active clinics in several regions of Mexico and Costa Rica. This year, Carlsbad Rotary Club and Carlsbad High Noon Rotary Club joined forces to fund this District 5340 MG P-3165 combining their pledges with personal donations by Dr. Jeff Moses and a surprise $10,000 challenge donation originating from prize cash of one of the fisherman on a winning boat team by the name of Texans ‘N Tunas of last year’s 2019 Western Outdoor News’ Cabo Tuna Jackpot Tournament who became enthusiastic after learning of this charitable need for children’s surgical safety. Now, despite the unpredictable power interruptions possible in this region due to weather, the Cleft- Facial Reconstructive Surgeries provided by the Smiles International Foundation can be securely accomplished during missions, and local residents can predictably have their hospital services performed year-round. In addition to the presentation of the DMG, Dr. Moses was able to donate and recognize several leaders of the Rotarian Community with three Paul Harris Fellowship Awards for their participation with the CaboSmiles projects over the past 10 years and still have time, through his support team, (Dra. Macrina Bustos & Smiles Communication Director Lic. Leticia Gottwald), to gather records while carefully observing COVID-19 safety protocols, for numerous children afflicted with facial clefts for scheduling of their future surgical corrections. Today is #WorldPolioDay so join Evan in giving polio the finger! Why give it the finger you ask? Well purple ink on the pinkie finger tells both the vaccination... volunteers and the vaccinated child’s neighborhood that one more person is safe from the horror of polio. It is more than a way to identify who has been immunized. It is a symbol of defiance against a crippling disease and a symbol of hope for a polio free world. No one is safe until all are safe. So let's Give Polio the Finger and End Polio Now. Polio has been reduced by 99%. We are closer than ever to ending this crippling disease forever. For as little as 60 cents, a child can be vaccinated against polio for life. Join Rotary International on World Polio Day for a live global update on polio eradication. For more information on Polio and Rotary's effort to eliminate it, visit endpolio.org.
