Patients with pre-existing CVD who have contracted COVID-19 are about 10% more likely to die, compared to only 1% of otherwise healthy patients. Currently, there are no special protocols for higher-risk cardiac patients to prevent COVID-19 exposure. Without social distancing, one infected person can infect 20,000 people within 4 to 6 weeks. Dr. Nirali Vora was awarded the Young Leadership Award for Innovations to Slash Stroke Disability and Death. Dr. Parag Agnihotri was awarded the Multi-Community Innovative Leadership Award for Getting Toward Zero Deaths and Disabilities from Diabetes, Heart Attacks and Strokes. Dr. Stephen Sidney was awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award for Leadership of the CARDIA Study illuminating the Importance of Coronary Artery Calcium Plaque in the Young for Triage. Dr. William J. Bommer was awarded with the Community Leadership Award for Leaning Forward with Implementation Action to Prevent Heart Attacks and Strokes.
