Newsom Signs Bill Protecting Solar From Split Role Tax Measure September 15, 2020 Governor Gavin Newsom recently signed SB 365 (Mitchell) into law providing protection from tax increases for large commercial and industrial solar projects should California voters approve the Split Role initiative, Proposition 15, on November’s ballot. With SB 365 now law, the value that solar adds to commercial and industrial properties valued at $3 million or more will not be factored into t...he property's tax rate. This law effectively immunizes the solar industry and our customers, both past and present, from the tax impacts of Prop 15. CALSSA worked with a coalition of industry groups to help pass this law amidst the chaos of Covid-19 and thanks to Governor Newsom for signing the bill into law. This bill protects solar owners should Prop 15 Pass- if it does not pass this bill will not be applicable. See more
