With the continued shut down, small businesses are hanging by a thread. Please help this amazing woman Maria Repetto (read her story in link) that put all her money, sweat and tears into this salon and giving a place for us (Denise, Angelina, Christine, and Sara, ) to make a livelihood and survive this devastating time and not lose it all. What’s wrong with moving hair salon services outside? A lot of questions this week after the new orders were given to salons to be able to move services outside. Yes we are allowed to do this BUT with a strict long list of do’s and donts! Firstly, we can’t build an entire salon outside because we aren’t allowed to have sinks or wash hair outside (per orders). We are only allowed to do haircuts, no chemical services or any service needing washing. We aren’t allowed... a tent with more than ONE wall enclosed. And we HAVE to be doing this on property that is attached to the LICENSED ESTABLISHMENT. Landlords are not agreeing to the new plan so they are refusing to allow the business to be moved into parking lots. Some smaller salons on downtown city streets simply don’t have the option of a parking lot to do this in. It’s truly unfair that this option isn’t even available to most stylists. Insurance will not cover services done in a back alley if someone gets hurt. It’s 80-95 degrees out on most days right now and people sweat. The hair can’t be washed so we are touching clients sweaty hair and cutting it dirty. Standing outside all day cutting hair in that heat with a mask and face shield on AS REQUIRED can be harmful to a stylists breathing and health. We are trained and licensed in SANITATION. We spend 1600 hours in school learning everything about keeping a client safe and our salons clean at all times. We have a state board that oversees things are being done correctly by randomly visiting salons with a checklist that ONLY INCLUDES confirming our safety and sanitation throughout the salon is up to their standards and laws. Something which I had happen 18 months ago and my salon passed the random state board visit with 100% score. Moving salon operations outside is simply NOT OK in our situation. The stylists at Capelli Couture Salon take pride in our ability to keep clients safe INSIDE our state approved and licensed establishment. We want to maintain our wonderful reputation, we will not be cutting your hair in the back alley parking lot next to our dumpster. We stand strong that these services done outside with extension cords and unpredictable weather conditions are just not safe for our beautiful clients and our stylists. It’s not that we are too good or above working outside, it’s that we know this is not our brand and simply just not safer than our stations inside. We hope you understand.
