Our friends at Celebration Theatre end 2020 by tackling the subject of homophobiasometimes subtle and sometimes notin show business. NORA HIGHLAND by actor, writer and member of Celebration's extended family Ryan Spahn follows the casting process of a notable gay character in an upcoming Broadway revival and challenges the phenomenon of straight performers being lauded for their work in queer roles. Tuesday, December 15th at 7:30pm on Celebration Theatre's YouTube Channel: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCN786F42G9z_IEQOtypXJdA
Audiences will return to the theater, Kristy Edmunds says, because we yearn to be together, not just in the auditorium but socializing in the lobbies. We need this energy and sense of belonging that we share. It will feed our soul. We [in the performance sector] offer moments that allow us to lament and to be together in connectedness."
Here’s a little taste of Taylor Mac's Holiday Sauce... Pandemic! to whet your appetite before for the full course, virtual premiere tonight at 7pm PST >> bit.ly/37aL5Nb Live performance has taken a huge hit during this pandemic, and Taylor Mac has graciously made our presentation a benefit event to support CAP UCLA. The minimum donation to register is $25, but if you are able to support us at a higher level, we encourage you to do so. Patrons who support us with a gift of $100 or more will receive an invitation to a special after party with appearances by Taylor Mac and Holiday Sauce artists!
While we hoped all our Tune In Festivals could be here to film at Royce Hall, some artists had to record from where they were sheltering in place. From NYC, Carla Canales inspired us with songs by female composers celebrating women's leadership and empowerment. This beautiful piece by Gwyneth Herbert honors trailblazing feminist icon Gloria Steinem. #YearEndCAPUCLA
Holiday Sauce...Pandemic! focuses on entertaining the audience and challenging them to reexamine their worldviews. The show explores the idea of chosen families.
