Homeless rights, Fred Taft, and Claudia's Law on the ballot
"Attorney Stefan Borst-Censullo, Counsel to Hoban Law Group, who specializes in cannabis legislation, explained that the federal government defined the idea that employers have the right to terminate for off work drug use, and they’ve continued this tradition, regardless of state laws for medical marijuana."
I will be appearing at this wonderful conference in beautiful Portland Maine this Monday. Hope to see you there!
"MM advocate Stefan Borst-Censullo, a Long Beach attorney with one of the nation’s first cannabis law firms, said the measure would allow for local control of an already-existing marijuana marketplace. 'You can either do that in a vacuum where there are no rules or regulations, or you can do so using the power of the state and the market to control for negative externalities (such as the black market), he said. It is all about the rules you put in place'."
"Borst-Censullo said voting MM would not create a new industry, but simply regulate one already in existence. We have rules that (were) passed with worker and neighborhood protections, and a system of revenue collection that makes sure money generated from an existing marketplace is put back into the community, he said. That’s not reinventing the wheel."
[Last night's debate kept the audience interested and wanting more. "This is so much better than the educational version you get in class," a CSULB student sitting behind me told his friend. "Yeah, for sure. This is awesome,"]

Councilmember Desley Brooks added the equity amendment to the larger medical cannabis programme, which was passed in a unanimous vote. But the programme is not without its critics. The actual text of the ordinance is a little controversial for procedural reasons, said Stefan Borst-Censullo, a criminal defence attorney and medical marijuana advocate. People are struggling to figure out how it’s actually going to be facilitated. But there’s a powerful intent behind what [Brooks] did.

The argument against large grows is that someone with more than a handful of plants is almost certainly involved in some form of commercial growing. However a per se limit on personal cultivation is an incomplete fix to addressing the various issues surrounding large illicit cultivation. We should instead focus on expanding local licenses for the plethora of best-practice minded growers. That is the best way to address legitimate concerns about diversion while preserving access to small and medium sized businesses.
