Camp Stevens 03.05.2021

Camp is a place where people build meaningful connections and grow mentally, emotionally, and spiritually. That opportunity must be equally available, accessible, and relevant to our transgender, non-binary and other gender expansive campers, counselors, staff, and guests. In recent days, we’ve watched heartbreaking legislation sweep across the country, taking aim at the trans* youth in our communities. We would like to be absolutely clear in our messaging - trans* youth are... welcome and supported by our camp and we will continue to stand for your rights as part of our human family. Camp Stevens along with 100’s of other camps and camp professionals nation-wide signed a pledge today committing to the following: We commit to continuing to educate ourselves and our community on justice issues that our trans* campers and staff may face. We commit to making space for our campers and staff to use the pronouns that make them feel whole. We work to ensure that all members of our camp community have access to a sleeping space that is equitable and safe for them, regardless of their sex assigned at birth. As an Episcopal camp, we believe in the God-given dignity of each human being and we celebrate a rich diversity of campers and staff including national origin, creed, religious belief, color, ethnicity, gender identity and expression, sexual orientation, family structure, and ability. You and your family are welcome, supported, and free to be yourselves here. (Trans* is an umbrella term used by some including Transplaining to include a wide variety of gender expansive identities including transgender, non-binary, gender non-conforming, two spirit, agender and many more)

Program Manager and Summer Camp Director Ariel Robinson (she/her) started at Camp Stevens a little over a year ago. She’s been patiently waiting, supporting, and contributing in every way she can for campers to finally return to Camp Stevens. Ariel has been excitedly watching summer camp registrations come in, preparing the ropes course, and working on hiring staff and counselors as well as coordinating support tasks and helping with hospitality. Her favorite spot on camp is on the trail between stone benches and upper meadow and her quarantine hobbies were birding, landscape photography, video gaming, and wood working. Register as a camper or apply for staff/counselor roles at www.campstevens.org/summer to come hang out with Ariel this summer!

We got some snow yesterday and are expecting more tonight and tomorrow. We’ve had a dry year and this snow will have a huge positive impact on the land as it collects and then melts over the next week. Photos are from Hannah Wilder’s morning walk. Sending love from Camp Stevens to everyone out there!

Happy New Year from Camp Stevens! Our staff and community members are enjoying the quiet time, and taking turns caring for the chickens, garden, water system, buildings and other essentials throughout the closure. Our youngest community member Luka loves to help whenever he can! Stay safe, everyone and we can’t wait to see you again once we’re back open in February. #openness #connection #gratitude #wonder #kidsofcampstevens #campkids #campchickens #backyardchickens

Camp Stevens is temporarily closed until February 10th due to the increased impact and limitations of COVID-19. Our staff will not be in the office and we are unable to check email or voicemails during the closure. Our presence on social media will be limited. During this time, you can visit our website for ongoing COVID-19 and closure updates. You can also check out programs, lodging, and day-use opportunities available upon our return in 2021. We are able to accept donations during our closure, and we are so grateful for your support in any amount. We look forward to connecting in the new year and wish you all a safe and warm holiday season. http://campstevens.org/covid-19-updates/

Camp Stevens campers Maya and Kaira wrote an awesome quarantine survival guide for Middle Schoolers. What a wonderful example of creativity, caring, and connection in such a challenging time. You can purchase your own digital copy on Amazon, and while you're at it you can choose Camp Stevens as your Amazon Smile charity which means a percentage of your purchases go to support our programs and facilities.
