This flower was a new one to us last year. This year it is everywhere! With a little research we found it’s common name to be: Twining snake lily, also known as dichelostemma volubile or twining brodiaea. What we know it is tall, pink and bends on a flimsy stem seeking sunlight and something to lean on. This wildflower is endemic to the mountain foothills of California and we are grateful for it. While you await your return to Camp Lodestar please enjoy these photos.... https://www.uccr.org/news/2020/6/24/the-twining-snakelily

Sweaty Work in Progress It’s pretty hot up in the attic of Toad Hall at Camp Lodestar right now. A little sweaty brow doesn’t stop us from working through it to continue the quest to provide cooler air to our guests. We thought we would show you the inside view of the infrastructure. https://www.uccr.org/news/sweaty

They say there are two types of people. People who grew up going to camp, and those that will go to camp soon. To the people who grew up going to summer camp, retreats or annual workshops at a camp or retreat center, there is no question about the impact it has made in our lives. With cheshire smiles these memories are imbued.... To the people who haven’t grown up attending summer camp, workshops, or who haven’t been on retreat, now is the time to recognize the value of gathering with others. Now is the time to discover the power of healing from isolation and loss. We know that memories made at camp or on retreat are humbling, potent and healing. Controlled Burn at Camp Lodestar It was quite a sight to see as the flames rose high at Camp Lodestar’s controlled burn earlier this year. As we were guided by the expert professionals, we felt we were in very capable hands to help us to manage our forest fuel. Once the correct permits were collected, we called in the scheduled burn to the Cal Fire office, we were ready to go. With three generations of experience, the professional tree service with former Cal Fire experienc...e helped us to mitigate the forest fuel load. Now that the burn is over, we can rest assured that we have done what we can to have lessened a fire hazard. In three days, fifteen acres were burned intentionally and safely. As stewards of the land and facility at Camp Lodestar it feels good to do everything we can keep our guest safe, this is just one of the ways we do so. https://www.uccr.org/news/controlled%20burn
