Here are some tips for communicating when wearing a face mask; especially when speaking with someone who has hearing loss, though you can use these same strategies to make communication easier for everyone. Remember to wear your mask.

Don’t wear your mask under your nose or just on your chin. A mask is only effective if it covers both ways you breathe. Wearing a mask or cloth face covering is required for anyone over 2 years old to enter our clinic. This limits the release of virus into the air, reinforces physical distancing, and shows you care about the health of others. Remember May is #betterhearingmonth Here are a few small things that can make a big difference for hearing each other during a virtual meeting. Make time for introductions, use video, check your lighting, keep your mouth unobstructed, use the mute button when you aren’t speaking, wait your turn, record your meeting. It is World Voice Day! Our otolaryngologists (ENTs) want to encourage everyone - young and old - to assess their vocal health and take action to improve or maintain good voice habits. And check out this Q&A about Voice Health: https://bulletin.entnet.org/article/qa-for-patients/

The overall health of our patients and staff is our number one priority. We will continue to provide medical and audiology services during this difficult time, with some changes and additional precautions. We have consolidated our offices and will only be seeing patients at our San Jose location on Hellyer Avenue. We ask that you call our office to schedule an appointment to see one of our physicians should you require urgent medical care related to your ears, nose, throat, h...earing and/or voice. When making your appointment, we will share visitation protocols at that time. We are not accepting walk-in patients. Our audiologists will be providing only essential services on a reduced schedule. If your hearing device is not working, some manufacturers are offering direct shipping for repairs. We will also be offering drive-by, drop-off services for our hearing device patients at our San Jose location on Hellyer Avenue. Call our office or email your audiologist for additional information.
