The Ohmapi Nature Project

Our field trip week took us to the Santa Ana Mountains where it rained, to vast grasslands of a former ranch of OC, to the Laguna Beach tidepools and up to the snow in the San Gabriel Mountains. A wonderful, varied, wildly nature-filled week!

After studying birds for 7 months, the kids "designed" a bird. We went around the circle and they gave details about the bird as Mike drew the bird. Schmiggy was born! I converted the chalkboard drawing into a silkscreen. The students dyed their shirts in indigo and then screened them with Schmiggy! We also dabbled in making our own screens. As I still have the Schmiggy screen, I can make more Schmiggy shirts....let me know if you'd like your very own Schmiggy shirt :-)
