ENCORE PERFORMANCE THIS THURSDAY! After a brief intermission from our first play, Voices Not Heard returns with Meetings where technology connects another family, although for a very different reunion. It's been nine months since Jaden has spoken to his mother Lori, thanks to the painful friction between her and Jaden's husband. And while that tension and the conflicts with his mother are yet to be forgiven or forgotten, Jaden is still reaching out to Lori with the news tha...t he and his husband have made her a grandmother. And although old wounds might not be healed with one Zoom conversation, maybe they can be eased. Michael P. Adams has always believed that more stories and more productions examining the queer experience were needed in theatre, and feels that now that he has begun tapping into his own perspective as a queer playwright, it has only deepened and enhanced his work. #voicesnotheard #meetingscsp #lgbtqia

Camarillo Skyway Playhouse 29.09.2020

ENCORE PERFORMANCE THIS THURSDAY! The first of our two plays, Subtle Permission, features a multicultural family as they catch up with one another over a Zoom call, a situation many of us have become all too familiar with. A racially-charged incident in the local community has caused Bianca, a college student and the youngest of the family, to begin questioning the beliefs and prejudices of previous generations that have been passed down to her, as well as her upbringing w...hich she feels failed to connect her to either her Mexican or African-American roots. As she confronts her father, aunt, and very traditional grandmother, emotions run high and large social issues become intensely personal. Writer Olivia Leyva is herself a recent graduate of California Lutheran University, and of Creole, Irish, and Black descent herself, and brings her experience with growing up the kind of identity crisis that affects so many young Americans. She hopes that this play introduces different perspectives on multicultural families and the conflicts and challenges they face. #voicesnotheard #subtlepermission #bipoc
