The Lost Art Of Concrete... The saying They don’t build ‘em like they used to is literal truth in the concrete industry. For decades, modern science has struggled to work out how ancient societies such as the Romans were able to create buildings, monuments and roadways which are still visible and even in use today, when the average lifespan of modern concrete tends to be far more modest. Now, a team of scientists from the University of Utah believes they may have found the ...Continue reading

"A big research and tech complex in north San Jose that’s more than three decades old has been scooped up by a veteran developer from Southern California. Overton Moore Properties, a development and investment firm, has bought Concourse Tech Park in San Jose. The sprawling one-story building is tucked away in a part of San Jose that’s dotted with older office, research and warehouse buildings and is very close to the just-opened BART station in Milpitas. The building Overton ...Moore bought has addresses ranging from 1953 to 1965 Concourse Drive, according to Santa Clara County public records filed on Oct. 13. Acting through affiliate 1953 Concourse Drive, Overton Moore paid $13.5 million, county property documents show. "It'll look like a real neighborhood and not a tech campus, based on early plans and renders. Google has given us a glimpse of its San Jose campus, and based on the renders and details it has released, it won’t look anything like a corporate facility once it’s done. Unlike other campuses that are closed off, the one in San Jose was designed to be a true part of the city. Half of the 80 acres it will occupy is reserved for residential spaces and other amenities that will be open to local residents."

"On Tuesday night, Santa Clara County is poised to move from red to the less restrictive orange tier under the state’s color-coded coronavirus risk assessment guidelines. That means the possible resumption of limited indoor dining. The soonest this could happen would be October 13 but if the current downward trend in new cases and positivity rates continue, many restaurants will be able to reopen indoor seating at 25-percent of capacity. ... The excitement is building at San Pedro Square in Downtown San Jose. Restricted to Al Fresco or outdoor dining in the closed off-street or on back patios, restaurants are making plans to reopen indoor dining rooms that have been closed for six months due to the coronavirus pandemic."
