District 10 Maintenance units from the Modesto region are out in force this weekend, and one of the areas where they are tackling the ugly problem of roadside l...itter is adjacent to State Route 120 through Manteca. Saturday's emphasis was the SR-120 connector from SR-99 to Interstate 5, in Southern San Joaquin County. Our committed crews were collecting and disposing of fast-food wrappers, general trash, glass, plastic containers and more that were cast out by motorists or dumped on the highway by people. District 10 has crews working alongside the highway all weekend, and across the region, so please keep an eye out for them as you drive past: We here at District 10 want to make sure that everyone gets home safely every night!

There is still an estimated 3,000 cubic yards of material to be removed. We will continue working as long as possible into the night. We will reassess in the morning and have an estimated reopening time by 11am. UPDATE (2/20-4 p.m.) Unfortunately, U.S. 101 will NOT be opening today. It remains fully closed due to slide at Last Chance Grade. The slide activity continued... today and stalled clean up efforts. There is still an estimated 3,000 cubic yards of material to be removed. We will continue working as long as possible into the night. We will reassess in the morning and have an estimated reopening time by 11 a.m. tomorrow. UPDATE (2/20-11:00 a.m.): We expect U.S. 101 to reopen at 8 p.m. TONIGHT to one-way traffic control. Motorists should anticipate 30-minute delays. The plan is subject to change and is dependent on no additional slide activity. U.S. 101 remains closed at Last Chance Grade south of Crescent City due to landslide activity. The slide activity has slowed down from yesterday and last night. Crews are making progress on removing the large volume of rocks and trees. Crews are working around the clock to reopen the highway as soon as it is safe to do so.
