Inspired this Halloween season by the current trend of two-sentence horror stories, the Caltech Library invites you to share your spookiest two sentences on our Instagram post's comments! (Or here on our page!) Here's a few to get you in the Halloween spirit from the TwoSentenceHorror subreddit: "While tidying my laboratory, I came across an unfamiliar notebook and opened the first page. 'WARNING: The subject still thinks he is the scientist.'" u/katsudonlink... "According to the computer readouts, the astronauts' oxygen ran out five days ago. So why are they still screaming?" u/Lots42 "The people of the town said a monster lived in the woods and I frankly found it ridiculous. For I was the only one who lived in the woods and I had seen no monster." u/luciferthecat

The Caltech Library is pleased to participate again in this year's international Open Access Week from October 19-25. OA Week's theme for 2020 is Open with Purpose: Taking Action to Build Structural Equity and Inclusion." The Library will celebrate OA Week with a focus on the open access books researchers can create in collaboration with our publishing program (https://www.library.caltech.edu/services/publishing). To publish a book or journal through the Caltech Library, an individual or research group needs a compelling idea and the text, data, and media files associated with the project. Members of the Caltech community can register for an online workshop to learn more about Creating an Open Access Digital Book using Bookdown on Friday, October 23: https://libcal.caltech.edu/event/7195725

As part of Caltech's Equity, Diversity, Belonging, and Inclusion (EDBI) initiatives, the Library has put together a collection of resources relating to anti-racism and the Black Lives Matter movement. The collection features recent academic and popular books, ebooks, and articles; reading lists on anti-racism, BIPOC self-care, decolonization, and libraries and social justice; links to relevant databases; and selected texts and images from the Archives. The Caltech librarians are also available to help locate resources at [email protected]. Link: https://libguides.caltech.edu/edbi/antiracist
While many of us have been working remotely this summer, some essential Library support staff have been on campus, helping to keep the Library running, serve our patrons, and occasionally take care of small but crucial tasks like watering the plants. John, our Library Support Associate, shared a photo of this hanging plant in Sherman Fairchild. It had to be moved to the third floor after growing so long, but has now almost reached the basement. Can't stop, won't stop!
