Action from today's event. The UTM (Universal Transverse Mercator) Grid Coordinate system is used by those travelling by foot or vehicle, as a way to quickly and easily pull their location from a map. Much like latitude and longitude, it uses vertical and horizontal lines overlayed on the map to measure locations north/south and east/west. Unlike "lat and long", it does not use curved lines, but straight. This makes the math and method of pulling your coordinates much more ...simple. It is however, a less accurate system of measurement, and is not applicable near the earth's extreme latitudes and poles. This is why it cannot be used for flight, or very high speed/long distance travel. Side note, UTM is very similar to MGRS, the Military Grid Reference System used by the United States military for land navigation. Believe it or not, real service dogs do exist. Many are trained to seek help if their human becomes incapacitated.
