About 18% of working Americans are experiencing lost jobs/severely reduced hours as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. Here are some steps Linkedin’s David Machacek says you should take immediately if found in this position: 1. File for Unemployment If you have become unemployed, whether permanently or temporarily, you may be eligible for unemployment benefits. Visit www.edd.ca.gov/about_edd/coronavirus-2019.htm to find out more about filing through the Employment Development... Department (EDD). 2. Get Health Insurance Being laid off is considered a qualifying event that allows you to apply for coverage outside of the usual enrollment period. Depending on your income, you may receive premium assistance that will reduce the out-of-pocket cost of your health insurance. You can apply for health insurance marketplace programs at www.coveredca.com 3. Update Your Resume Whether you expect to be rehired by your former employer or need to seek out new employment, this is a great time to update your current resume. According to Machacek, a resume should be easy to scan with the eye, highlighting specific skills and expertise, and focus on specific outcomes and accomplishments as opposed to inputs and responsibilities. 4. Start Applying Unless your employer has given you a date when you can expect to return to work, start putting your resume out there and submitting applications right away. 5. Get Training Use the down time to build yourself up! As you look through job listings, pay attention to specific skills employers are looking for and look for ways to improve yourself in these areas to make yourself a vital asset to any team! For the full article, please visit: https://www.linkedin.com//5-important-steps-take-immediate And don’t forget to stay informed by visiting https://www.cdc.gov/ for confirmed, up to date information regarding COVID-19.

We thank you for your patience, please see below for other adjustments we will be making at this time! *Defer Non-Urgent Repairs To reduce person-to-person contact, CAL Property Management will defer all non-urgent repairs until the health emergency has subsided. Urgent items, such as water leaking, plumbing stoppages, stopped up drains, roof leaks, or an electrical hazard, will be handled safely & promptly. As a courtesy, when submitting a maintenance request, we ask that you inform management if you or anyone in your home have been self-quarantined or are feeling ill. *Use the Online Resident Portal for Rent Payments and Work Order Requests Paying rent online eliminates the person-to-person contact of bringing your rent to the office or mailing in your payment. Please submit photos with all Work Orders. Email us at [email protected] or at 831-757-1208 ext. 10 for assistance with setting up your Online Resident Portal. *Vendors and Suppliers We are collaborating with our vendors to improve health and safety. Our vendors will be required to be masked and gloved when they come to your unit. You may insist that they come when you are gone, so that you and the service personnel avoid person-to-person contact. *Self Help- Important instructions are available at cdc.gov. For local information, go to thecalifornian.com (they are providing a free subscription at this time to provide up to date information on COVID-19 in our area) In the last month, we have learned that this situation is fluid and ever-changing. Please continue to follow the lead of the CDC and local health officials. They should continue to be the primary source of information and advice.
