Mechanical engineering professor Steve Klisch led two SURP projects studying the biomechanics of pitching a baseball with the goal of reducing injuries in young pitchers. Mechanical engineering students Karthik Padmanabhan and Christina Fong spent the summer studying the myriad forces, torques and parameters of throwing a baseball. In Professor Klisch's other project, biomedical engineering student Marissa Martinez studied how gait biometrics are related to body mass index.
