On June 17th, we celebrated a virtual commissioning of eight senior cadets who completed the Strategic Sealift Officers Program (SSOP). Four cadets were able to complete the oath on-board the T/S Golden Bear, while the other four took the oath virtually. The eight cadets were: Preston Bowers James Brook Theodore Carter... Class of 2020, Cal Maritime congratulates you on your achievements and upcoming graduation. Although we are unable to mark this milestone in person, the Virtual... Commencement Celebration provides an opportunity for our graduates to celebrate their accomplishments with loved ones and the entire Cal Maritime community. Graduates also have the option to participate in any future in-person ceremonies with prior arrangements. Congratulations, and go Keelhaulers! Cal Maritime is happy to share a message for admitted and enrolling new students from President Tom Cropper about our ongoing planning for the fall 2020 semester. We realize that news headlines after the CSU Chancellor's May 12 statement imprecisely trumpeted "the CSU is Going Online for the Fall," but that statement allowed for CSU campus exceptions. The special nature of our programs and the way we educate students means that we intend to offer a robust on-campus experience for as many students as possible with face-to-face instruction for as many courses in as many majors as possible - all while maintaining health and safety protocols for the protection of the campus community.
