Palatal expansion: this young female patient had very narrow jaws. After wearing a palatal expander for few months she now has a wider upper jaw, straighter teeth, and on top of that, she is sleeping and breathing more peacefully. The roof of the mouth is the floor of the nasal cavity so by widening the palate, the nasal cavity has more volume. Nasal breathing is important for our health. We should always be breathing through our nose. Don’t wait until age 6-7 to have your child’s jaws checked for ideal growth. Sleep and breathing problems can be present early as birth! The earlier the problem is identified, the better.
