***SCAM ALERT*** I received a phone call this afternoon from a concerned citizen who lives east of Winchester in the French Valley area. She called to inquire ...about two "Murrieta Firefighters" knocking on her door and offering to check her home for safety hazards. She declined their offer; they were "persistent" but eventually moved on to other houses in the area. Although we have done home inspections (free of charge) in the past, we do not go outside the City of Murrieta and we are always in full uniform with City of Murrieta employee identification. I advised her of that and since her residence is outside the city limits that she should report this immediately to the County Sheriff's Department. We have heard of similar scams like this in the past but with local businesses. It's something to be aware of and something we need to share with our community, one another and our PD partners. If this ever happens to you, please feel free to call our Fire Administration Office at (951) 304-FIRE (3473), to check if we are, in fact, performing home inspections that day. This is something we only do upon request and is part of another program that is usually reserved for senior citizens (mostly in The Colony area).
