Hello friends: Don't miss our own Drs. Irva Hertz-Picciotto and Rebecca Schmidt talk about their #wildfire research this Thursday, October 22 at 11 AM. They've been collecting data from survivors and studying the health impacts since the Fire Siege in 2017. You can listen in and participate in the discussion LIVE on Facebook, YouTube or Twitter. This page is meant to provide you with information about our ongoing #CaliforniaWildfires Survey, which you can take here: https://ucdavis.co1.qualtrics.com/j/form/SV_eLp7b7N9wn5ZdHf. But we also want to share information on this page about solutions to #climatechange by connecting you to organizations doing the work for a more sustainable future. One such group is the Fire Adapted Communities Learning Network. Please check them out! This group provides invaluable resources to help fire affected communities adapt to the changes we're experiencing from global warming. https://fireadaptednetwork.org/
UC Davis scientists are starting to discuss how #COVID19 intersects with #ClimateChange, which are two major areas of research here. Of course, respiratory and mental health problems are major concerns because wildfires and coronavirus impact both. But when you mix those problems in with health disparities that already exist in certain groups, these impacts on health compound into a far deadlier mix for African American, Latinx and Native populations. This article in Mic is worth a read and touches on some of these issues through interviews with EHSC's Irva Hertz-Picciotto and Anthony Wexler: https://www.mic.com/p/why-this-years-wildfire-season-is-par
These two men are recovering at UC Davis Health's Burn Center, both survivors of the #snulightningcomplex fire. They could use our support. Read more about them here to find out how you can help: https://www.kron4.com//stepbrothers-recover-at-uc-davis-m/
