Ever wonder what you can learn from fluid aspirated from ovarian cysts? Some women have issues ovulating - and therefore increase their risk of developing simple ovarian cysts. Unfortunately, sometimes these cysts can cause a cycle of cysts because their presence disrupts the next group of follicles from ovulating properly and so forth. This first image is fluid aspirated from 6 different ovarian cysts in the same patient on the same day. She had not ovulated for 6 months in ...a row. I changed the tube as I aspirated each cyst as each tube tells a story. Like the rings of a tree, the color gradation indicates how long the cyst has been present. The newer cysts have a straw colored fluid and the cysts that have been present for a longer time have a darker reddish color. The second image shows an transvaginal ultrasound image of the first three cysts. There are several ways to address a simple ovarian cyst. Some have patients rest a cycle and return the following menses. Some use birth control pills. I prefer to monitor the natural cycle whenever I detect a functional cyst to insure the next follicle ovulated properly to break the cycle of cysts. This allows women an opportunity to conceive in the month I am monitoring and triggering ovulation if sperm is normal and Fallopian tubes patent with normal uterine cavity. It also minimizes the risk of a second cyst from developing. And finally it provides women a clear understanding of their cycle and timeline. Empowering patients with information specific to their own ovarian activity helps minimize stress of the unknown. I have learned that my patients appreciate the data driven decisions we make in their fertility care. -Dr. Kelly Baek, California Fertility Partners

Three years ago we constructed a new, state of the art IVF laboratory, featuring a highly purified air system and industry leading equipment. Our highly experienced embryology team provides extensive experience in all aspects of embryo culture, biopsy, and cryopreservation. Our continuous culture system gives embryos an optimal environment for growth and development, leading to more blastocysts per treatment cycle. Our program offers a variety of reproductive procedures inclu...ding IVF, intra-cytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI), blastocyst culture, embryo biopsy for pre-implantation genetic testing (PGT), embryo freezing, and egg freezing. Through close working relationships with expert reproductive urologists we offer testicular biopsy procedures for sperm procurement prior to IVF. Our IVF laboratory also utilizes sperm separation chambers to isolate sperm with lower DNA fragmentation for use in IVF treatment cycles. The physicians and embryologists at California Fertility Partners work closely together to provide the highest quality personalized care possible for our patients and their embryos.
