Did you know heating is the second leading cause of home fires? Install and test carbon monoxide alarms at least once a month. Have a qualified professional clean and inspect your chimney and vents every year. Store cooled ashes in a tightly covered metal container, and keep it outside at least 10 feet from your home and any nearby buildings. Keep anything that can burn at least 3 feet from any heat source like fireplaces, wood stoves, radiators or space heaters.... Plug only one heat-producing appliance (such as a space heater) into an electrical outlet at a time. Never use an oven to heat your home. Turn space heaters off when leaving the room or going to bed. #safetyfirst #firesafetystartswithyou #fresnocountyfire See more

We've got a big storm coming our way, expected to bring low temperatures with lots of rain, wind and snow! Take precautions now to be sure you are prepared for whatever the storm may bring: * Refresh you emergency kit with food, supplies, and necessary items for every member of your household. * Monitor weather conditions and sign up for emergency alerts. Consider signing up for Everbridge alerts from Fresno Sheriff at https://member.everbridge.net/index/453003085614497#/sign...up * Know your risks and take precautions! Stay away from creeks and rivers that may overflow. Do NOT attempt to drive through flooded areas. * Be aware of your surroundings. High winds may knock down branches and trees, creating dangerous conditions for people outside playing, hiking or otherwise. * In areas impacted by the Creek Fire, be aware of the risk of mud and debris flows and don't wait to evacuate. If you ever feel uncomfortable or unsafe with conditions, leave the area. * Don't drive if you don't have to. If you must head out in hazardous conditions, be extra cautious on the roads, slow down, leave extra space, and leave early to allow extra time to safely reach your destination. Other helpful resources to follow include emergency preparedness information from Ready.gov at https://www.ready.gov/severe-weather Additionally, check out the Creek Fire Storm Risk map to see which area(s) may be most vulnerable to this week's system: https://maps.fresnosheriff.org/.../webappvi.../index.html... Be sure to stay connected to Fresno Sheriff, US National Weather Service Hanford California, CAL FIRE/Fresno County Fire, CHP Fresno, Caltrans Central Valley District 6 and others for info, resources and updates on conditions. Stay safe! See more

RP: @calfirewellness Bringing Wellness to the Fireline with the #CALFIREFURFAMILY! One of the exciting actions that has come out of Employee Support Services (ESS) this year is bringing therapy animals to the field, and into multiple Incident Base Camps. When our first responders are on-duty and on-assignment, it can be hard to find time for wellness so CAL FIRE is finding more ways to bring wellness to the field. Therapy animals have been used since the 1700s in emergency ...medicine and have a special place in today’s emergency response world too. Studies show that exposure to animals produces an increased amount of Oxytocin in our bodies. Oxytocin is a neuro-hormone that builds physical and mental resiliency. It assists with stress reduction and protects our brain and heart tissue. Not only does petting an animal release Oxytocin, it can also offer healing properties that can help to assist with trauma. Shout-out to @kerith_the_golden_retriever for all their work with CAL FIRE and our interagency partners. Share and Tag @calfirewellness and @kerith_the_golden_retriever and let’s share our #CALFIREFURFAMILY Swipe Left for multiple pics!
