There are many accomplishments that firefighters work for during their career. To reach the level of Paramedic, is absolutely no small task. This year proved uniquely difficult, trying to finish medic school during COVID. So it's with great pleasure that we re-introduce everyone, to our newest Firefighter Paramedic, E. Hernandez. Good job on getting your Blue Card!!!

We are currently running a squad while our 2nd ambulance is getting repaired. 3827 is an emergency response vehicle just like our ambulance and fire engines. Please give it the right of way if you see it's lights and sirens active.

Ok everyone, tonight is the last night for Santa. Unfortunately, we're not able to answer questions, we have to address some fire unit issues today. We've made contact with a few people and we're addressing some of last night's detours. If we've exchanged communications with you last night, we'll contact you. SANTA CARAVAN DIRECTION, PRECAUTIONS, and SAFETY FOR ALL: 1. Please, DO NOT cut in, by, or around the emergency vehicles in an effort to get closer to Santa. 1 vehicle ...came very close to one of our firefighters as he was exiting the engine. Follow all traffic laws especially those that apply to emergency vehicles. 2. We cannot answer social media questions while we're doing this. We're already busy with route adjustments, waving, playing music, and keeping an eye on Santa. 3. Please, DO NOT set off fireworks right by the engine! Remember, they're illegal to shoot off in the city. And most important of all... 4. Let's have some holiday fun! Let's enjoy sharing a moment with one another. We've had so many challenges this year, please help us finish off this idea strong. It's been humbling seeing each and every one of you. Your strength, gives Us strength. Happy Holidays and have a very Merry Christmas! See you all tonight...

This is how brazen some of our local arsonists are. During today's training evolution, pallets were set on fire right next our evolution. Great response from our dispatchers and police officers, who were able to assist us. *Video of how close the fire was set to our training evolution in the COMMENTS section of this post.

Before the old Hose Tower was demolished someone alerted us that there was a piece of equipment that was mounted on the antenna atop the hose tower. This piece of equipment has been mounted to the old station for 48 years. Retired ICFD Captain John Green advised that his grandfather had donated a train horn after the original one stopped working, right after they moved it from the original Fire Station 1 on First Street. Captain John Green's father is Retired Calexico Fire De...pt Captain A Green and he served the citizens of Calexico from November 1962 until February 1992 when he retired at the rank of Captain. Capt John Green started his career with the Calexico Fire Dept serving as a Reserve Firefighter for 16 years from 1980 until the Reserve Firefighter program was disbanded in 1996. Captain John Green then went on to work for the Imperial County Fire Dept where he recently retired at the rank of Captain. The train horn that was donated, was done so by Mr. Jose M. Rodriguez, who worked for Southern Pacific Railroad. The train horn was used to alert off-duty personnel. 1 blast was to alert administration/ Fire Chief. 2 blasts was to alert off-duty response and 3 blasts was to signal an "All Call" for a big incident. It is unknow just how long the horn was in service. The horn is being restored and will be on display. Thank you so much to the Green family and Mr Rodriguez. See more

Today is National First Responders Day and we would like to thank all of the hard working men and women that are on the front lines helping when anyone is in need, including our Calexico Police Department and Dispatchers. A special thanks to our Firefighters that answer the call day in and day out. Our department is a full service department that responds to emergency and non-emergency calls that range from fires, traffic accidents, rescue, medical emergencies, all the way to... general public assistance, lift assist, and then back to mutual aid response and out of county strike team response. Our firefighters are the only ones in the Imperial County to respond from and transport to the hospitals on our cross staffed Advanced Life Support Ambulances. It is extremely busy with our call volume steadily increasing every year. Our Firefighters are busy 24/7 365 days a year. This year has been extremely challenging with an added stress with COVID-19. We have had to change and improve many things in our daily routines and not only did we have to be extra cautious. Our firefighters were in the middle of it with the Imperial County and specifically Calexico being one of the highest infection rate per capita in the state. It has been a really tough year for us but we have managed to stick together and push through. We promise to always answer the call and be there whenever our citizens need us no matter what is going on around us. See more

Today the "old" Calexico Fire Dept. Fire Station 1 was officially demolished. The demolition was to make way for the new fire station that will be built in the same location. The original fire station 1 was built in 1969 along with the Police Station that was adjacent to the fire station. The dedication ceremony for the Police and Fire stations was held in May of 1971. The station was in use until August of 2017 for a total of 46 years. Many great memories were made in the ol...d station and we are looking to make many more in the new station. We will be posting pictures of the progress. The proposed new fire station is a one-story, approximately 9,000 sq. ft with 3 apparatus bays with full drive through access, apparatus support spaces including turnout gear storage, EMS, clean-up, workshop and hose storage. The firefighter living quarters will accommodate for up to eight firefighters. See more

Oral presentations are a tool utilized to teach Paramedic Interns how to keep their composure in front of a crowd. Subject matter is critiqued and interns are placed in the "hot seat." It's also a time to remind them to breathe. Paramedicine is about treating patients. Take your time, slow down. There will be plenty of opportunities when chaos will show its face and crank up the pace. Let your preceptor guide you through this. Trust your preceptor. Give your preceptor everything you have, and above all, listen to every bit of direction they provide! Calexico Fire out!

Today is National Fallen Firefighter's Day and we take the time to honor all of the men and women that have given their lives in order to save others. Although there can not be an in-person attendance at the services, the National Tribute to honor America's fallen firefighter is being broadcasted. 82 Firefighters that died in 2019 and 21 that have died in previous years will be remembered. They will never be forgotten.
