God in the Bullpen? How else would one describe the one who rescued a Major League pitcher? Many professional athletes have experimented with drugs. When Randy Lerch was a Rookie and told by a respected veteran that he would never make it in the Major Leagues without amphetamines, he trusted him and took them. They gave Randy a feeling of invincibility but hurt his performance. Soon the "greenies" became a habit and eventually, he washed them down with alcohol. Of course, tha...t became a habit also. Eventually, addiction led to a failed stint in rehab. After rehab, an auto accident when driving while impaired nearly took Randy's life. This was his lowest point. This is when, the ultimate relief pitcher, God, came from the "Bullpen" and saved the game - and Randy's life. Lerch was later diagnosed with Cirrhosis of the liver which was incurably damaged by alcohol. With God's help, Randy battled these demons, but only God knew how much time Randy had left. In God in the Bullpen, Randy tells his story in an honest and unfiltered way in order to help others avoid the pitfalls that brought him to a time of despair. He also wants to tell YOU that the LORD can help you if you will give your life to him: and HE WILL give you eternal life in Heaven. Randy Lerch is a former professional baseball pitcher who played in the Major Leagues for the Philadelphia Phillies, Montreal Expos, Milwaukee Brewers, and the San Francisco Giants from 1975 to 1986. He is most famously remembered for pitching plus hitting two home runs in a win that clinched the National League East Division Championship for the Phillies. Randy was also the starting pitcher in the Brewer's first-ever playoff victory. In addition to sharing his faith in God, he recounts many great Baseball stories in God in the Bullpen. Randy Lerch is an alumnus of Rancho Cordova High School and Lives in Placerville, CA.
