Hey people! The 2020-21 SUBLEVEL Editorial Team is hard at work on Issue #5: ESCAPE, and we're calling out for submissions to the "Portfolio" feature of the magazine. Haven't seen SUBLEVEL? Check it out. The current issue, EDGE, is...all hot and bothered. ESCAPE is going to be something else! The call closes January 8, 2021. Got something for us, or know someone who does? Send it on, and spread the word! https://sublevelmagazine.com "How did I escape? With difficulty. How ...did I plan this moment? With pleasure." Alexandre Dumas, The Count of Monte Cristo Sublevel seeks ruminations on literal, figurative, metaphysical and performative manifestations of ESCAPE. For this issue, we consider the fear of leaving, the excitement of going, or the inability to escape at all, physical and mental fugitivity, explorations of retreat, investigations of vanishment, disappearance, avoidance and ghosting, displacement, self-exile, asylum, banishment, evacuation, flights of fancy, checking out, nostalgia and reverie, disaster, fight, flight or freeze, jailbreak, decolonization, privileged mobility, prison abolition and freedom from the carceral state, death and non-escape. We invite you to explore ESCAPE from all sides. Show us the exits. They may not be clearly marked. All media accepted. Written works should be limited to 1,500 words. Submissions by January 8, 2021. ($50 compensation if published) Please email us your writing at [email protected] with the heading: ESCAPE Submission. Visit sublevelmagazine.com for more information.
