Meet Jonathan Koch - a most extraordinary man who overcame incredible odds to survive. In 2015 Hollywood executive, Jonathan Koch, suddenly became ill with flu-like symptoms. Doctors were baffled when it worsened dramatically over the first 24 hours. In fact, Jonathan was told he would probably die that night and to contact his loved ones. It was a hospital resident that figured out Jonathan had something called Hemophagocytic Lymphohistiocytosis (HLH) which is usually trigge...red by a virus. Although the doctors were able to save his life, it was too late to stop the spread of necrosis to his limbs. He first lost parts of his fingers on his right hand, all of his toes and his lower right leg. His leg was fitted with a prosthetic limb which enabled him to walk again after not being able to do so for quite some time. When he was told he would also lose his entire left hand, his wife, Jennifer, began searching for other options to amputation. Enter Dr. Kodi Azari, world-renowned surgeon and head of UCLA's Hand Transplant Program. Dr. Azari performed an amazing 17 hour surgery with a team of 24 doctors and nurses to attach a donor hand - a procedure that has only been done approximately 90 times worldwide. When Jonathan awoke from surgery he was already able to move his new hand! After two months, he was tying his own shoes! He continues to improve day by day, however, the most extraordinary thing about Jonathan is his incredible spirit and perseverance to overcome odds that most people could not. He never gave up and always kept a positive attitude and a smile. Jonathan and Jennifer, we love you both. You are an inspiration to everyone who is lucky enough to know you. @jonathanfkoch.com See more
