Cake Spree 31.01.2021

It's time for holiday parties. I still have a few openings between now and New Years' eve - so if you wanted cookies, cupcakes, or a centerpiece cake - give me a call.

I love succulents; I include them in planting designs as often as I can. However, I'm not crazy about actually getting in the dirt and pruning/caring for them - they're sharp! On that level, the best succulents are made of modeling chocolate and live in graham cracker sand.

First fancy dress party of the season - seems appropriate to bring a fancy purse. The birthday girl wanted a Chanel purse. It had to be red and gold, and it had to be chocolate.

Sometimes it's fun to look back at the design process and compare with the final cake. Clare was turning 7 and her mother was going to throw an amazing party. She had already purchased a large cake stand and a bridge - and a number of princess dolls to stand on the bridge. She asked me to create a cake with a custom name topper and a large standing number to top the bridge. This was the centerpiece to a full dessert table - many other cakes and desserts that had been purchased at other bakeries. It was fun arranging everything into a cohesive tableau.

It's that time of year - my daughter's birthday is coming up, so we're discussing cake designs. This was last year's cake. The design is based on her desktop - rainbows, doodles, and a 'fandom garbage' emoji. She had to explain most of it to me, and I'm still not sure I totally get the 'garbage' part. The cake, on the other hand, was far from 'garbage'. The cake was covered in rainbow chocolate-candy melts, then wrapped in a rice-paper covered in doodles. The emoji is a rice-krispy treat ball, and is sitting in a modeling chocolate garbage can.
