After this game of Quiplash, we are going back to the rest of talks on the schedule.

California Extreme Updates 03.11.2020

CAX afterparty has been moved up and is happening earlier than planned because of technical issues with some of the videos.

REMOTE PLAY A REAL PINBALL MACHINE It's not perfect, but we wanted to let you try it anyway. We've set up a Capcom Kingpin pinball machine on Surrogate.TV for you to try. It can be found at https://www.surrogate.tv/game/extreme-kingpin... and you can try the Batman 66 and Octoberfest pins they have in Finland which you'll find at https://www.surrogate.tv. WARNING: IT ISN'T PERFECT!!!!!! (6 exclamation marks - really - so don't expect perfection.) The whole technology is pretty new and there are a lot of inherent lags in the way it is set up, so expect round-trip lag to be on the order of half a second even if you are in California. Adjust your play, there are techniques to manage it, but don't plan on scoring in the billions. Yet, once you adjust a little it is oddly compelling to some of us. Just the notion of playing a real pinball remotely has some appeal. Also because everything is still rapidly developing, some elements don't work for everyone. On one computer when I play, I get no picture or sound, while on another machine they work fine. Sorry about that to those experiencing "Tommy" mode! Give it a try if you like. Being in development there are lots of interesting improvements to be made. The team at Surrogate.TV have been great to work with and we (Ken & TJ) really want to express our thanks to them for this opportunity to figure out how to make an older machine work when you can't touch it. If you are interested in helping out (after CAX) you can join their Discord and figure out how to improve things with them.

California Extreme Updates 05.10.2020

Hey all, just wanted to throw out a few ground rules for how tomorrow night's Quiplash game will go down during the Afterparty (sometime shortly after 6pm PT). Quiplash is a fill-in-the-blank comedy game, and we've built a bunch of custom prompts that classic arcade and pinball fans should appreciate. If you aren't able to be one of the eight main players, you can still determine the outcome of the game by being a member of the audience. We want to see your silliness and cre...ativity -- but we don't want to see anyone's hate speech or harassment. (We're kinda tired of political strife, too.) So if you want to play, we'd ask you to keep that in mind: Funny is subjective, but common sense and a sense of escapism will take you far. Please also note that you will need to have a Twitch account to be one of the eight players in our matches -- Twitch accounts are free, but we're making you sign in with your account name so as to discourage ne'er-do-wells and increase accountability. Hey, it's your dumb joke -- stand behind it! So make sure you have your free account set up, and then sign into jackbox.tv with it if you want to play. Dan Amrich will have more info for you when it's time to play -- see you Saturday night!

Don't forget -- the big event is this Saturday at twitch.tv/caextreme! Make sure you follow the channel (it's free) so you get updates as we go live with the main show as well as the Afterparty! Here's a FB event if you need a little reminder. :)

California Extreme Updates 20.09.2020

Video game bands are a CAX tradition & we're thrilled to confirm the following artists for the CAX 2020 Afterparty: Sergio Elisondo & the Holograms Extra Lives The Surfle Jerks... ...and would you believe it's the 10th anniversary of "Arcade Gaming Shrine" already? Palette-Swap Ninja shot the video way back at CAX 2010, so we're throwing that in as a bonus! Where CAX 2020 ends, that's where the Afterparty begins, so stick around at twitch.tv/caextreme when everything else is done for more fun! Ain't no party like a CAX Afterparty because a CAX Afterparty takes place after the main programming has concluded!
