In July, Veteran Mike Garcia voted against HR 7608 that would have, among other things, authorized a $9.8 billion dollar increase in VA medical treatment and healthcare with a priority on mental health and addressing veteran homelessness. The bill also included $10 billion dollars in COVID relief. For a full summary of what Rep. Garcia does not support: https://www.causes.com/bills/hr7608-116
It has come to our attention that there is a rumor circulating of a planned protest in support of the Black Lives Matter movement on Thursday, June 4, 2020 at 12pm at the corner of Valencia Blvd. and McBean Pkwy. As local leaders of progressive organizations, we are not aware of or in contact with any organizers of either local or out of town groups planning such an event. Out of an abundance of caution, we recommend to our members and supporters that they not attend or participate in any action in the City of Santa Clarita on Thursday, June 4th. We will continue to collaborate on effective and peaceful actions that can be taken by the community of the Santa Clarita Valley to effectively support our brothers and sisters of color and call for much-needed reforms in our criminal justice system and beyond.

Today #CA25 is holding each other tight as the reality we have all feared has hit here at home. Our thoughts are with the victims, students, and families of #SaugusHigh as this news unfolds. We do not accept this as the new normal.
Today we watched with heavy hearts as Representative Katie Hill spoke her final words on the House floor. To understand what brought us to this moment, the LA Times has you covered. https://www.latimes.com//katie-hill-husband-revenge-porn-r
Journalism is a pillar of democracy and requires protection so that the people can be well informed. However, political action thinly veiled behind a facade of journalism is an undermining and betrayal of fundamental journalistic integrity. As a campaign manager for one of Representative Katie Hill and Assemblywoman Christy Smith’s Republican challengers, this story should never have been in Jennifer Van Laar’s hands. This was not journalism. This was a political operation. And this is only the very tip of the iceberg. https://www.mediaite.com//reporter-behind-story-on-k/amp/
Today, we sit shocked and saddened by the news of Katie Hills resignation. Many of our members spent countless hours dedicating their time and effort to making history in our district, which we won’t forget. As we process this news, please remember the values that we fight for on a daily basis and promote in our own lives. This mission is bigger than any one person. We remain united as ever behind progressive change across our amazing district.
After months of work, we are excited to announce some new changes to 25UP and how we will be continuing to grow in the year to come! We encourage you to check out the announcement on our Medium page and subscribe so that you'll be among the first to see what we have coming your way!
