On 1-8-2019 the first club meeting of the year was held at the Elwin Mussel center. Issues discussed were transfer of BOD and officers, budget, grants, tentati...ve hunt dates for the jr hunts and a general plan for the year. Thank you to all members that were in attendance! Please remember to renew your membership if you haven’t already! Single adult membership dues are $30 until 3/31 print the membership form and return it with a check payable to Santa Maria Valley Sportsmans Association/SMVSA meetings are the second Tuesday of every month. Attention hunters... if you are gonna kill a big mature buck and you think he is a wall hanger, please don't shoot him in the head... more specifically don't shoot them thru the antler burr. It will cost you extra for sure.

Reminder to all of my hunters going out of state this year! You need to submit a declaration of entry form to multiple places when bringing deer or elk back in to California. Also remember no deer or elk brain or spinal cord tissue may be brought in to California! And if any of you need tips on care for your trophy, please call text or shoot me a pm and I will give you some info!

With all of the crazy ass weather we've had this weekend it got me thinking... there's gonna be some bucks killed today! As a reminder for all of my customers! At this time I am not processing any animals! Period. I'm sorry for any inconvenience this may cause. But my wait time for taxidermy is such that it leaves me no time for the processing room! Good luck this season!

INSTRUCTIONS FOR CAPING FOR SHOULDER MOUNT 1.) with a sharp knife slit the hide circling the body about 6 inches behind the front legs. Slit the skin on the legs at the knee. Slit down the back of the legs. 2.) slit skin down the back from circle cut on ribs. Peel th skin forward up to the ear and jaw line. Cut in to neck meat approx. 3 inches down from head neck junction, circle the neck down to spine. Grab antlers and twist the head off of the neck. 3.) if you can't ge...t to the taxidermist right away roll cape up tight hair side out, place in bag and freeze asap. Unless you really know what you are doing don't attempt to skin the head out! A lot of important parts can easily be left behind if done incorrectly! When field dressing Don't cut in to the skin on brisket! Stop your gutting incision at the rib cage! Cut briskets will result in extra sewing which will result in more cost to you! If you aren't sure of what you're doing and don't want to mess up the cape bring your animal in whole and let me handle it! I charge $20 to do the full cape job, but sometimes it's worth it! Well, with the A zone rifle opener literally right around the corner, I would like to say a huge thank you to all of my customers! This year has been personally on of the roughest years of my life, and that has put me a little more behind than normal. Please rest assured that I am back in the shop and I'm working my butt off to get caught up as fast as possible! So thank you to all of you who have been so patient with me while I've been going through it, I appreciate you all! Good luck this season! And if you get that big buck you're after, you know where to take it!

A chance of rain tomorrow morning for Santa Barbara and SLO counties???? During deer season???? Yes please! With rut looming a change of weather could be just what we need to get it going in to full swing! So that being said, I will be late to work tomorrow! Lol but, here's an idea... Hey everyone! I'd like to just take a second to remind you, with the Santa Barbara County Fair right around the corner... This shop no longer processes ANY domestic animals! (Pigs, sheep, goats,or beef). I know in the past this was a full service butcher shop, but it is not any longer! Sorry for any inconvenience that may cause you!
