Dear Friends and Families of Providencia, We need your help to "Save The Music at Providencia! Click here to help: providenciapta.square.site... Providencia has been able to provide an exceptional music program for EVERY child for the past nine years thanks to donations and outside support. We have been the only school in Burbank Unified to provide general music classes for ALL students where 4th and 5th grade students also learn how to play the violin, the viola, and the cello. We are one of only 13 schools in the whole state of California to win the prestigious Exemplary Arts Education Award last school year. As exciting as this is, we’ve reached a critical moment and much of our funding is no longer available. Providencia Elementary PTA needs your help to Save The Music for the 2020-2021 school year by raising the $18,000 needed to continue our TK-5th grade General Music Program including our 4th and 5th grade Instrumental/Strings Program. This live music instruction is adaptable to the distance learning model, hybrid model, and on-site instruction. No donation is too small because every penny helps! Please share our story and our fundraising link with your family and family friends - to help us Save The Music. Did you know: Typical karate, art, or music classes in the community can cost $60-$100 for just 6-8 weeks. For less than $1.00 a week, your child can have an award-winning music program for an ENTIRE school year right here at Providencia! The current pandemic does not allow us to accept cash or check donations. Please make your donations and any supporting family or friends’ donations by using PTA’s online Square account here: providenciapta.square.site Thank you for your support, Jen Culbertson and your Providencia PTA

The projected $18.3 billion reduction to the Proposition 98 will be devastating for our schools. YOUR ACTION for your children's future in needed NOW! Please email Governor Newsom and demand Sacramento prioritize funding for public education in the 2020-21 budget. You can email his office here: https://govapps.gov.ca.gov/gov40mail/ Sacramento needs to hear from each and everyone of you to save our children's future. If you need information for your email, see below pulled fro...m a variety of sources include CAPTA: 1. Reopening our schools is key to reopening our economy, but more importantly it is key to the health and welfare of our future. California’s schools will not be able to provide a safe and successful learning environment for every California student without the necessary funding. 2. schools. For two years, we tried to pass a parcel tax. Measure I just missed passing by 2% of the vote. This loss created devastating cuts to BUSD schools. This vote happened before the pandemic. However, COVID-19 and the extra expenses our school district had to pay to switch to distance learning as crippled our schools. We are facing close to a $13 million deficit to run our schools. 3. Public education in California remains underfunded, and that schools were facing severe funding challenges with rising costs PRIOR to the COVID-19 outbreak. In March before COVID-19 school closures the California School Boards Association conducted a survey which found that 77 percent of school districts were deficit spending in the current year and more than one-third were considering layoffs based on the January state budget proposal. Those same funding challenges remain, and in this crisis, they are becoming more severe, not less.
