To anyone who remains silent: your silence erases our humanity. Now, more than ever, the Asian community requires allyship. We must work together to break the silence surrounding the current rise in racism and end the indifference. We are not your model minority. We are not your scapegoats- we are humans who deserve to be treated as such! Throughout history, Asians have experienced violence and exclusion. However, these diverse lived experiences have largely been overlooked.... With the COVID-19 pandemic came an increase in xenophobia, anti-Asian racism, sinophobia, discrimination, and violence which have been escalated by ignorant language used by public officials and members of the media when discussing COVID-19. More than 2,100 hate incidents targeting Asian Americans and related to COVID-19 were reported nationwide between March and June of 2020, according to the Stop AAPI Hate reporting center. This center has been named our 'Social Impact Center! With our Social Impact Center, we strive to provide opportunities, resources, mental health services and a safe space for these persons who are unable to request or access resources due to not being able to ‘come out’ and ask for hel...p or access transportation to visit other LGBTQIA+ resource centers. Our center will not be only for the LGBTQIA_+ community but for everyone.
