This painted utility box is located at Alameda Ave. and Riverside Dr. in Burbank. It was painted by artist Laurah Grijalva @theblackmagenta and sponsored by Bur-Cal Management Group. Grijalva says, "Entertainment is not only what is produced and packaged for us. It can be what we create around ourselves. Having scored a new puppy this summer, I have been overwhelmed with the entertainment and joy she brings to my life. It seems I am not alone. As a commercial artist my goal ...is simple: " What do they want?" When this is clear, concept to completion happens rapidly. The experience in a project where the public takes an interest, has been both uplifting and exciting for this artist. My career in visual effects was seldom lighthearted. This endeavor recalled the proverb, If you love what you do, you will never work a day in your life. I was truly honored to have the opportunity." #burbank #burbankarts #bcac #beautification #utilitybox #painting See more

It's Artist Spotlight Monday! Featured here is ceramic artist Mims Ellis @mimsellisceramics. Ellis has had a lifelong interest in art, but she became interested in ceramics as an adult. She recounts, "I enrolled my young son in a kid’s ceramic class and he had a lot of fun in it. So I decided to take an adult class and I was hooked! I was very surprised to find I could create something tangible out of mud, because that is essentially what clay is. It is immensely satisfying ...to take a static clump of clay and form it into a piece that people can use. And I’m honored that a piece of my work can bring a smile to someone’s face as they use it in their everyday life." Read more about Mims Ellis at burbankarts.com (link in bio), where you can also sign up for the biweekly newsletter to learn about other local artists and happenings. #burbank #burbankarts #bcac #artistspotlightmonday #ceramics @ Burbank, California

Dancer, choreographer, and dance instructor Christopher Nolen believes that art can transcend life. When Burbank Arts asked him how art affects the community, he explained, "Art enriches a community by passing cultural and historical traditions from generation to generation. Art also enables self determination, discipline, focus, creativity and self empowerment. When one truly immerses themselves into art they can also find a spiritual awakening. Dance art specifically is gre...at for mental and physical health. People can engage with art in the greater Los Angeles area by attending events put on by local artists, supporting small businesses, taking a class from professionals in the art field and welcoming art into their life as an experience that will touch their life in ways that are more profound than words can express." It's Burbank Beautification Friday! This painted utility box, "It's a Zoo Out There," is located at Riverside Dr. and Rose St. in Burbank. It was painted by artist Emily Feehly and sponsored by Cusumano Real Estate Group. It’s a Zoo Out There represents the crazy energy of the movie making processthe wide variety of jobs and personalities that make the whole thing function. The idea started with if an editor was an animal, what kind of animal would it be and just snowbal...led from there (river otters really would make the best PAs). Emily is a part-time artist and part-time veterinary nurse, and a full time nature lover, who by a curious series of events has found herself in the concrete jungle of Los Angeles. Her goal with her art is to encourage people to take care of our earth and to protect and conserve its amazing animals and wild places. #burbank #burbankarts #bcac #beautification #utilitybox #painting

Happy Artist Spotlight Monday! Multi-talented artist Stefanie Girard @stefanielgirard has created an art wall in Burbank to bring art and inspiration to the community during the pandemic. Girard explains, "Inspired by the hashtag #PutArtInYourYard, I started the Burbank Neighborhood Gallery at Oak and Fairview. (#BurbankNeighborhoodGallery at #OakAndFairview on Instagram). I placed clear page protector pockets on my fence with the words 'Your Art Here' stamped on cardstock an...d a sign inviting artists of all ages to share their work. As of the time of this writing there are close to 60 pieces of art on the wall and virtually all who pass by stop to enjoy it and if they see me say how much they appreciate that I set this up. It makes their day." This painted utility box, "Jam Box," is located at Alameda and Pass Aves. in Burbank. It was painted by artist Brent Myers and sponsored by Cine Concerts. The title, Jam Box, was inspired by the artist’s personal experiences growing up as part of the local music scene. As a teenager, Brent started out as a graffiti artist and has been featured in several books on Los Angeles graffiti in the ‘80s and ‘90s. For the last 30 years, he’s worked as a scenic artist for many studios and scenic shops, most notably CBS, ABC, and Disney.
