Today's Dharma Family Service is available on YouTube - Rev. Bridge's talk, "Listening & Learning," is based on a quote from the late Larry King: "I never learn a thing while I’m talking. I realize every morning that nothing I say today will teach me anything, so if I’m going to learn a lot today, I’ll have to do it by listening." He relates it to Buddhist ideas found in the Three Treasures and the Fulfillment Passage of the 18th Vow.... https://youtu.be/nstSO_0aLWo?t=201

These form the core of our Buddhist Values - may you find yourself surrounded by them, embraced by the Vow of Amida Buddha as we recite the Nembutsu. Shinran Shonin the founder of the Jodo Shinshu sect of Buddhism was a very interesting figure in Buddhist history. He was a monk who married openly and had children. His descendants established the Hongwanji (Temple of the Primal Vow) and a sect with a married priesthood. Shinran’s doctrine recognized the importance of worldly relationships, while also recognizing that in the big picture, we are all family. On this Father’s Day, let’s celebrate our fathers and reflect on our relationships, as we continue to hear the Dharma in our daily lives. Rev. Bridge’s Father’s Day Dharma Message is available on our YouTube channel: https://www.youtube.com/c/buddhistchurchofoakland
