October 2, 2020 Update: SR-70 Still Closed SR-70 from SR-89 (Plumas County) to Deadwood Road (Butte County) remains closed due to the North Complex Fire. ... Active fire and falling debris continues to impact the highway, presenting significant safety hazards. CHP and Caltrans are on scene 24/7 constantly evaluating the situation and working closely with USFS. The safety of the public and firefighting personnel are top priorities and drive the roadway closure decision making process. We really appreciate your patience. Be safe.

The North Complex Fire continues to actively burn in the Highway 70 corridor as it gradually continues to move to the northeast from the Grizzly Dome Tunnel. It... has not spotted across the highway as of 2:00 p.m. today. Both heavy helicopters and fixed-wing aircraft are using retardant to slow the fire and support firefighters constructing line. The video below was taken by the Colorado Division of Fire Prevention and Control Multi-Mission Aircraft after noon today. The imagery looks at the fire in infrared, which shows heat as bright white spots. The view is looking towards the northeast at the head of the fire.
