Repost from @cancelrentsd @sdqtpoc_colectivo Image description: Red and yellow flyer reads Stop Evictions Rally and Press Conference. Date 8/27/2020 at 330 W Broadway, San Diego, Ca, 92101. Time 7:00 am. ... Photograph of people holding banner that says evictions equal death in black lettering with red hand prints. Text below reads: #cancelrent #evictionequalsdeath #housingisahumanright Event is being hosted by the cancel rent coalition which is comprised of the San Diego tenants union, acce, socialist alternative, psl, dsa San Diego and sdqtpoc colectivo. The Cancel Rent Coalition of San Diego is hosting a Rally and Press Conference on Thursday, August 27th at 7am. The event will be held in front of the Hall of Justice on 330 W Broadway in San Diego and will be to protest the coming wave of evictions due to inability to pay rent during the Covid 19 pandemic. The Cancel Rent Coalition understands and supports that many thousands of San Diegans who were unfortunately left without employment due to the Covid shutdown and many were also denied the government stimulus payments for various reasons. It is unrealistic for landlords (especially large corporate landlords who received bailout funds) to expect people to be able to pay multiple months of back owed rent, especially for those still unemployed at this time. Evictions in the middle of a pandemic are inhumane and put people's lives at greater risk and so the coalition is holding a rally of community organizations to discuss this and what rights tenants/options do have right now.

Black Lives Matter San Diego is collecting school supplies for a Back To School giveaway next week. Please share widely. From BLMSD: Since our elected officials... feel it necessary to put more funds into violent institutions that continue to harm our community, we are over here trying to build better futures for our people. The school year is approaching fast and while we are thankful most schools will be using distance learning, we know that there are black families who do not have access to basic school supplies, internet, or electronics for their children because of loss of income and trying to survive through this pandemic! BLM is asking that the community show up for these families with donations of items or resource sharing requested above. We have TWO dates that we will be doing donation drop offs. Thank you in advance for supporting black futures! #buildblackfuturesSD #blmsandiego Image description: 1st image is A graphic with pink, yellow, and gray shapes.
